Josephine Yam, JD, LLM, MA Phil. (AI Ethics)



Josephine is the CEO & Co-Founder of Skills4Good AI. As an AI lawyer, AI ethicist and tech entrepreneur, she leads the company in helping organizations achieve compliance, algorithmic accountability & Responsible AI.

As a woman, visible minority and immigrant, Josephine passionately advocates for equity, diversity & inclusion in AI innovation to create a human-centred AI world.

As an AI technical expert, she serves on the Standards Council of Canada Mirror Committee ISO/EC on Artificial Intelligence. She was a delegate for Canada to the annual ICO/EC Plenary on AI. Josephine recently co-authored two peer-reviewed publications on the intersection of AI law, ethics and technology: "From Human Resources to Human Rights: Impact Assessments for Hiring Algorithms" with the Ethics and Information Technology journal and “Is There an App for That?: Ethical Issues in the Digital Mental Health Response to COVID-19” with the AJOB Neuroscience journal.

Josephine is one of the RBC Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Awardees. She is also a recipient of the Most Influential Filipina Woman in the World Award in London, UK.

Josephine graduated from Stanford University Graduate School of Business’ Executive Program. She recently obtained her Master of Arts in Philosophy degree specializing in AI Ethics at the University of Guelph. Her AI Ethics graduate degree strategically complements her Master of Laws degree that she obtained at the University of Calgary. Josephine also pursued advanced legal education at Harvard Law School and the University of Toronto. She also received the Award of Achievement in Diversity & Inclusion from the University of British Columbia. She obtained her undergraduate and Juris Doctor Degree of Law degree from the Ateneo De Manila University. She’s been admitted to practice law in New York (USA), Alberta (Canada), Ontario (Canada) and the Philippines.

She regularly speaks at conferences, panels and workshops and has been interviewed on international television such as CNN and CNBC. She’s also been featured in magazines such as Newsweek, Cosmopolitan and the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association. Her personal website is
